PLAN TO LIVE TO 100

Everyone knows when they were born. If you can tell me your date of death, we can plan your financial strategy almost perfectly. Of course, most of us can't know when we'll die. What we do know is that we do not want to live a hand to mouth existence, or die destitute. Our FALLEN ANGELS 100 approach to asset allocation is designed to help you avoid running out of money, and provide guidance given your investment timeframe and current age.
THE COUCH POTATO PORTFOLIO / FALLEN ANGELS 100
Years ago, I first heard this approach referred to as "The Couch Potato Portfolio," where you simply sit back and adjust the asset allocation every year as you grow older. Here's how it works: Assume that you just might live to 100, and as we age, the cost of living goes up so you're always going to need some growth.
Now take the the number 100 and deduct your age. If you are 40, that leave 60 which means 60% of your liquid assets should be in stocks purchased when they're on sale...what we call Fallen Angels. The remaining 40% should be in income oriented investments that offer a high degree of safety.
If you're 60, subtract 60 from 100 and you know that 40% of your capital should be invested in growth, with 60% in income. That's the idea behind our FALLEN ANGELS 100 approach to asset allocation. As you get older, the majority of your capital is generating income. And you continue to get some growth potential just in case you live to be 100.
This issue's Fallen Angels features stocks on sale for the growth portion of your diversified portfolio. Next issue we will concentrate on some timely Fallen Angels for income.
